CMHA North Bay and District is amping up the conversation this summer.
With the success of the animated Pixar movie, Inside Out 2, CMHA North Bay and District is pleased to see the increased conversation around anxiety online and in the community, and the importance of addressing the stigma around expressing our emotions.
Inside Out 2 continues the story of Riley, now a teenager facing new emotional challenges. Among these new emotions is Anxiety, an orange, frizzy-haired character who plans for the future and is constantly on guard for the worst. By showcasing these experiences, the movie serves as a powerful tool to spark conversations about mental health and anxiety management.
“Inside Out 2 ingeniously presents audiences with a relatable and impactful representation of anxiety,” said Mary Davis, CEO of CMHA North Bay and District, “The movie highlights the complexity of anxiety by showing how it can be a motivator but also cause problematic feelings such as tension, fear, and worry. The characterization of anxiety in this way makes the struggles of anxiety accessible to everyone — including young children — and helps in the fight against mental health stigma.”
Like depression, anxiety disorders are a common problem. In fact, sometimes depression and anxiety occur together.
If you’re struggling with managing your anxiety, help is available. CMHA North Bay and District offers various peer-led support groups and activities as well as health promotion workshops aimed at better understanding your mental health, exploring ways to reduce unhelpful coping strategies, and building healthy behaviours that help you better manage anxiety.
