The Mental Health Court Worker assists people with mental illness and addictions or symptoms of mental illness and addictions who are dealing with criminal matters. Court Support helps people navigate the justice system and provides consultation with criminal justice system staff. This support is offered in North Bay, Sturgeon Falls and Mattawa.
This program is for individuals with pending criminal charges and is accessed through the Mental Health Court Worker. With approval from the Crown Attorney’s Office, individuals’ charges may be put on hold while they are diverted from the court system to mental health and other community supports. The Mental Health Diversion Case Manager provides case management support over the course of the diversion plan which typically lasts 6-12 months. When the diversion plan has been completed the charges are revisited in court.
