On February 28th, more and more people are using Pink Shirt Day as a platform to promote and practice kindness, be supportive and inclusive, and raise awareness for anti-bullying initiatives.
Pink Shirt Day by CKNW Kids’ Fund helps increase awareness around bullying in schools, workplaces, homes, and online. Additionally, the event helps generate funds to support programs that value healthy self-esteem in children.
Bullying is a form of aggressive behaviour where someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. Bullying can take the form of physical contact, words, or more subtle actions, that can result in mental health issues like anxiety, low self-esteem or depression.
For more information on anti-bullying resources, visit pinkshirtday.ca, You can find additional fact sheets from the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health on understanding and setting boundaries and finding healthy ways to deal with anger.
Additionally, check out WITS® programs and discover effective ways children can deal with conflict resolution. The four WITS strategies (Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, and Seek help) are available to schools K-5/6/7. For middle and high school youth, look under “Programs” for Canadian Kindness Leaders and Pink Shirt Project.
